Allergy blood testing

An allergy blood test can help your doctor determine if you or your child has allergies - and to what exactly. A blood test is quick and simple and is available to your doctor.

A blood test can test for hundreds of allergens, such as weeds, trees, pollen, mold, food, and animal dander. Adults and children of any age can take a blood test, and it can be performed irrespective of skin condition, medication, symptom, disease activity and pregnancy.

How does it work?

Together with your doctor you can discuss which allergens to test. Your doctor will take a small blood sample and send it to a laboratory for analysis. The result are sent back a few days later. The test is quantitative and measures the amount of allergy antibodies in the blood (IgE), which is an indicator of allergic sensitization. Based on a physical examination, your case history and the blood test, the doctor will be able to make a proper diagnosis.

You are not exposed to any allergens during the testing procedure, hence there is no risk of allergic reactions.
